OKEOVER PAST
Okeover Origins
Ye Olde History
The Okeover name stems from a noble family who's origins go back to Medieval times, during the 12th and 13th Century. The Family of Okeover owned a vast estate of land and property, spanning across Staffordshire and Derbyshire. They also owned property in parts Leicestershire, Norfolk and Warwickshire, acquired via marriage, and was in their possession for less than 100 years.
The surname Okeover was first found in Staffordshire where this respected and knightly family are lineal descendants of Ormus, who at the period of the Norman Conquest was lord of Okeover by grant of Nigel, abbot of Burton. During the long period of almost eight hundred years, they flourished uninterruptedly upon that estate. Okeover Hall is a privately owned country house held by the family since the reign of William Rufus (1087-1100). Another branch of the family was found at Atlow in Derbyshire. The manor of Atlow once belonged to Henry de Ferrars, and was held under him or his immediate heirs by the ancestor of the ancient family of Okeover.
One prominent member of the Okeover Family was Leake Okeover (1701 - 1765) son of Thomas Okeover and Catherine Leake. Leake Okeover married Mary Nichol in 1730, who passed away in 1764. The Okeover Family crest can be seen outside the pub, above the entrance.
OKEOVER PRESENT
Meet The Owners
In 2022, the Okeover Arms found new life under the stewardship of a dynamic family trio: Vickie, Dhiren, and Angela. With over two decades experience in the hospitality industry, they embarked on their own venture, infusing the establishment with their passion and expertise. The vision is to craft a welcoming haven, a home away from home where guests could relish in both Indian and English culinary delights.
Revamping the pub and its expansive garden area, they transformed it into a picturesque backdrop for gatherings, whether it be a casual evening out or a celebratory occasion like birthdays or group dinners. Operating six days a week, we embraced a warm ethos where furry friends and even the occasional moody boot are greeted with open arms, ensuring that every guest feels like part of the family at Okeover Arms.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS
"Absolutely love this pub! Such a beautiful location and lovely traditional feel, but not old fashioned. Good selection of ales, including Plum Porter which is a particular fave. The game pie was to die for, fabulous chips. But the best part was the ambience and customer service. You really need to bottle this and share with other establishments as it's so rare right now."

"This was a fabulous pub stopover in our motor home. The surrounding walks were stunning and perfect for walking with friends and the dogs. The hospitality from the landlady and all staff we met was top class and the food excellent. We had light bites one evening which were delicious, breakfast on both mornings - again delicious and an evening meal - perfect!

"Popped in for lunch. Nice place, big fire, warm and friendly. Host was particularly welcoming and went out of her way to look after us and our sausage dog pup Millie, despite her yapping. Most dog friendly pub we've ever been in. Food was excellent too. Fully recommend."

I travel all over the uk on hiking trips and always try out local pubs to put money back into the pockets of the local people, I must say this was one of the best pubs I’ve been to in a while."

"Drove past by chance last week and thought we’d try dinner this evening. So glad we did - what a find. We had our two daughters with us and were made very welcome by all the team. Food was excellent and service was spot on and very friendly. Think we’ve found a new favourite. We’ll be back!"

"We got a table without booking for Saturday lunch. Nice food, reasonable prices, good beer. Very quick and competent service from nice people. The menu is a little different from standard pub grub with some Asian dishes, which is very welcome. Would go again."
